Tune up your child’s brain with a multivitamin

It’s not just your child’s body that benefits from all those vitamins and minerals. A 12-week study in the British Journal of Nutrition reveals that children who take a daily multivitamin have better attention spans than kids who don’t take one. Even more surprising: Attention spans began to improve just three hours after the first dose.

Your mate is more attracted to you when you do favors

But, surprisingly, it’s not doing favors for your better half that boosts your appeal—it’s when you do favors for someone else, such as bringing food to a food pantry, driving a neighbor to an appointment or donating clothes to a shelter. That’s the news from researchers at the University of Nottingham in the U.K., who, in a series of recent studies, found that people were more attracted to partners who did selfless acts for others.

When British researchers from the University of Nottingham studied the happiness levels of over 1,700 men and women, they found that those who had at least 10 pals were the happiest and most satisfied with life. Need to widen your social circle? Try signing up to a bowling league, volunteering at an animal shelter, joining a book club, taking a knitting class or throwing a pot-luck dinner and asking your current friends to bring along one or two of their chums who you haven’t yet met.
