About

gabrielle lichtermanI’m Gabrielle Lichterman and I’ve got one of the best jobs in the world—and it makes me the most boring person at parties. I’m a professional tipster for national women’s magazines, which means I hunt down the best study-proven and expert-backed tips that make every aspect of your day happier, easier, faster and cheaper. And this means I have a half a dozen helpful tips handy whenever someone brings up any topic. And while you’d think (okay, I’d think) people would really appreciate this odd quirk, it surprisingly doesn’t go over so well.

I mean, picture it—you’re going on about how proud you are that your kid just got a B in math and I butt in and add, “Well, you know, studies show that on test days if she avoids looking at the color red and you tell her that girls are just as good at math as boys and she chews gum, it will raise her score so she gets an ‘A’”. Or, say you’re telling a story about how you snagged a great deal at the supermarket and off-handedly mention that you put your purse in the shopping cart seat. I’ll stop you there and tell you that research shows that a shopping cart seat is teeming with fecal bacteria from kiddie diapers and, therefore, is the very last place you should put your purse. Or anything else for that matter.

You can see why I’m such a buzzkill.

Still, these facts are incredibly handy. I just think perhaps I’m bringing them up in the wrong settings. Sure, you expect to learn about them in a magazine, but at a party? My problem is that these great tips only last on the newsstands for just a month or week at a time. If you miss them, then you may have missed the easiest way to clean a blender (puree soapy water and ice in it), a surprising all-natural trick to getting whiter teeth (would you believe it involves spinach?) or the website that allows you to send free letters from your computer—no stamp or envelope needed (themailmonster.com; I use it and it’s awesome). Or what if you missed a tip that could have seriously saved your life, like how to escape from a sinking car (head to the back seat!) or helped you land a job (by knowing the answers recruiters really want to hear)?

So, I decided to set up a blog where I could share my favorite life-improving tips—while leaving party-goers to mingle in peace. And that’s when Your Day…Only Better was born.

Your Day…Only Better is your trusted source for easy study-proven and expert-backed tips that make every aspect of your day happier, easier, faster and cheaper. Come back daily to learn surprising new ways to make your money, work, school, home, family, kids, friends, shopping and dining experiences better than ever.
