Considering hiring a new babysitter, handyman or tutor? Wondering if one you already hired is being truthful about their background? Heck, just curious about your weird neighbor? Then get the spelling of the person’s full name and their date of birth and use it to check their criminal history in the online public database criminalsearches.com, advises St. Augustine, Florida-based private investigator Steven Kerry Brown, author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Private Investigating. While it doesn’t list all offenses (it relies on reporting from individual precincts), it does list many drug, violence, robbery, DUI and other criminal acts.
Tip: You can search by address, too. Click on the “neighborhood watch” link in the menu to check the crime records of a specific house or area.
