Having candy nearby makes you less likely to indulge

You’d think the opposite would be true, right? Well, a study published in the Journal of Consumer Research reveals that keeping tempting treats in cupboards, your desk drawer or somewhere else close by exercises your “will power muscles”. The result? Your self-restraint is stronger in other tempting situations, for instance, if offered a second slice of pie at a friend’s house, it’ll be easier to turn it down, or if handed a big bag of M&Ms, you’ll be less likely to eat them all.
