The secret? Print it on heavier paper. In a recent study, volunteers who read a passage of text attached to a heavy clipboard read it more thoughtfully and felt more positive about it than those who read the same passage while it was attached to a light clipboard, reports the journal Psychological Science. The reason stems from childhood when we learn that weighty objects require more effort and concentration to carry (think of holding a Barbie doll vs. a whole dollhouse) and are usually more valuable (imagine one penny vs. a bucket of pennies) so our brain get trained to automatically think harder when we hold heavier items and consider them more important, says lead study author Nils Jostmann, Ph.D.
