Rev up recall with chocolate

by Gabrielle on January 25, 2010

Forgetful? There may be an easy—and tasty—fix: chocolate! Folks who downed a cocoa drink rich in antioxidants got a boost in memory for two to three hours afterward, according to a study out of the University of Nottingham in the U.K. Why it works? Brain scans reveal that chocolate’s flavonols increase blood flow to the brain’s memory centers, making them work harder, says lead study author Ian Macdonald, Ph.D.

Tip: For similar results, look for a dark chocolate with more than 60% cacao.
