If you’re traveling for the holidays, you better listen up! A recent Ross State University study confirms what you already suspected: roadside bathrooms are full of bacteria. In fact, scientists reported finding staph, E. coli and even potentially life-threatening MRSA on toilet handles, dryer buttons and sinks. And washing your hands isn’t enough—germs also lurked on the door handle on the way out. Can’t hold it till you reach your destination? Then grab a paper towel and use it when touching toilet handles, spigots and door handles, the researchers advise. And just in case no paper towels are handy, stash a bottle of antibacterial in your purse. And use liberally.
