Slow talking! Liars may think they’re pulling a fast one, but in reality, folks who fib speak about 33% slower than those who are telling the truth. That’s the news from British researchers at the University of Southampton who tested a new type of lie detector—the Timed Antagonistic Response Alethiometer, or TARA—that measures the speed of speech. Lies take longer to spit out because they require more complex brain functions than simply telling the truth, the researchers explain.
