If you think you’re going to get a lot of use out of a new gadget—like a waffle maker, cappuccino machine, exercise bike or navigation system—think again! A recent study in the journal Social Influence shows that we tend to use new products about half as often as we predict we will. Still convinced you’re going to get a lot of use out of your new purchase? Then ask a friend, neighbor or even a fellow shopper how frequently they think you’ll use the item. The study shows that their predictions are accurate about 90% of the time!
